Discord Verification Process
Discord verification links your Discord account to your verified MyNATCA membership, giving you access to member-only channels and features. This process is separate from your initial MyNATCA account verification.
Prerequisites
Before starting Discord verification:
Required
- Verified MyNATCA account - Complete member verification first
- Discord account - Free account at discord.com (opens in a new tab)
- NATCA Discord server membership - Follow our joining guide
Recommended
- Desktop Discord app - More reliable than web browser
- Stable internet connection - Verification process requires consistent connection
How Discord Verification Works
Automatic Verification
Most members experience automatic verification:
- Join the NATCA Discord server with your invite link
- The bot automatically detects your verified MyNATCA account
- Member roles and channel access are granted within 1-2 minutes
- You receive a welcome message confirming verification
Manual Verification
If automatic verification doesn't work:
- Use bot commands to link your accounts
- Provide additional verification information
- Moderator review (if needed)
- Manual role assignment
Step-by-Step Verification
Step 1: Join the Server
- Use your MyNATCA invite link (found in your dashboard)
- Accept the server invitation when Discord opens
- Wait in the lobby area - you'll have limited access initially
- Look for verification instructions in the welcome channel
Step 2: Automatic Account Linking
The bot will attempt to automatically link your accounts:
What the bot checks:
- Email address match between MyNATCA and Discord
- Recent invite link usage
- IP address correlation
- Account creation timing
If successful:
- You'll receive a direct message from the bot
- Member roles will be automatically assigned
- Additional channels will become visible
- You'll see a "Verified Member" role
Step 3: Manual Verification (If Needed)
If automatic verification fails:
Use the /register Command in #verify Channel (Enhanced October 2025)
The #verify channel is specifically designed for member registration. The bot now includes intelligent help messages to guide you through the registration process.
New Feature: Automatic Registration Help (Added October 2025)
The bot detects common registration mistakes and provides instant help:
Important Notes:
- Only
/registercommand works in the #verify channel - Bot detects common mistakes and sends @mention help messages
- Help messages auto-delete after 30 seconds to keep channel clean
- Use proper member number format (no spaces or special characters)
Common Registration Mistakes the Bot Detects:
-
Typing member numbers without /register command
You type: 123456 Bot replies: @YourName Hey! To register, use the /register command and follow the prompts. Don't just type your member number. [Auto-deletes after 30 seconds] -
Misspelled /register command
You type: /regsiter or /regster Bot replies: @YourName I think you meant /register - use the slash command to start verification. [Auto-deletes after 30 seconds] -
Help or question keywords
You type: How do I register? or Where do I sign up? Bot replies: @YourName Only the /register command is allowed in this channel. Type /register to begin. [Auto-deletes after 30 seconds] -
Any other non-command messages
You type: [Any regular message] Bot replies: @YourName Only the /register command is allowed in this channel. Type /register to begin. [Auto-deletes after 30 seconds]
Correct Usage:
- Go to #verify channel
- Type
/register(the slash command will auto-complete) - Follow the bot prompts to start verification
- Provide your member number when requested
- Check your DMs for the verification link
- Complete verification through the web interface
Why This Helps:
- Instant feedback on common mistakes
- Reduces confusion for new members
- Keeps the verification channel clean and organized
- Decreases support requests to moderators

Common Verification Issues
"Automatic verification isn't working"
Troubleshooting steps:
- Wait 5-10 minutes - The process can be slow
- Leave and rejoin the server with the same invite link
- Check your email for any verification messages
- Try the
/registercommand for manual linking
"The bot isn't responding to commands"
Possible solutions:
- Make sure you're using the /register command - Type
/registernot just your member number - Use the #verify channel - Registration commands work best there
- Watch for help messages - The bot sends temporary @mention tips if you make mistakes (New October 2025)
- Look for the auto-delete timer - Help messages disappear after 30 seconds
- Try direct messaging the bot instead if channel registration fails
- Contact a moderator if the bot appears offline
- Wait and try again - The bot may be temporarily down
"I typed my member number but nothing happened" (Updated October 2025)
Why this happens:
- You need to use the slash command
/register, not just type your member number - The #verify channel only accepts the
/registercommand - The bot will send you a temporary @mention help message if you make this mistake
What to expect: When you type just your member number, the bot will @mention you with a helpful message like:
@YourName Hey! To register, use the /register command and follow the prompts. Don't just type your member number. This message will automatically delete after 30 seconds.
Correct approach:
- Type
/register(with the forward slash) - Select the command from the autocomplete menu
- Enter your member number when prompted
- Check your DMs for the verification link
New Feature (October 2025): The bot now provides instant, automatic help for common registration mistakes. If you see an @mention message from the bot in #verify, read it carefully - it will tell you exactly what to do and then disappear to keep the channel clean.
